What this trip is built around
- A night in a desert camp outside Jaisalmer, with a camel ride at sunset
- Mehrangarh in Jodhpur — the one fort that reliably holds a child's attention
- Heritage-property stays that are genuinely old, not new builds with arches
- Train between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer as an option, which most kids prefer to the car
A suggested shape
A starting point, not a fixed plan. Every day here can move, stretch or go.
- 1–2
Jaipur
Amber Fort, City Palace, and an evening at Chokhi Dhani for the kids.
- 3–4
Jodhpur
Mehrangarh, Jaswant Thada, and the blue-city lanes below the fort.
- 5–6
Jaisalmer
The living fort, Patwon ki Haveli, and a night at Sam dunes.
- 7–9
Optional
Udaipur for lakes, or back to Jaipur to fly out.

Worth knowing before you commit
- April to June hits 45°C in Jaisalmer and is genuinely unsafe for young children and elderly parents.
- The Jodhpur–Jaisalmer overnight train is comfortable and saves a 6-hour drive.
- Desert camps at Sam range from basic to luxury — the gap is large, so ask which tier you are being quoted.
- Fort entry tickets are extra at all three cities and add up for a family.
Common questions
Is the desert camp suitable for older parents?
The Swiss-tent camps have attached bathrooms and proper beds, so yes. The camel ride is optional and there is a jeep alternative to reach the dunes.
How hot does it get?
April to June is 42–46°C in Jaisalmer and genuinely unpleasant with children. We will push you to October–March and tell you why.
