Worth knowing before you commit
- Kaziranga closes for the monsoon, roughly May to October, because the park floods.
- Elephant safaris are forest-department run, short, and limited in number — book weeks ahead or swap for a jeep.
- Guwahati to Kaziranga is 5 hours; Kaziranga to Shillong is another 6. This is a driving trip.
- The Nongriat double-decker root bridge is 3,500 steps each way and needs its own full day — it is not in this outline.
Common questions
When is Kaziranga open?
Roughly November to April. It closes for the monsoon because the park floods — which is also what keeps the grassland alive, so it is a feature, not a fault.
Is the elephant safari ethical?
It is forest-department run, short, and limited. Some travellers would rather not, and we will happily swap it for an extra jeep drive — just say so.
